A Time of Great Reversals

(The Legacy of Queen Elizabeth II)

by Nathan Shaw

In a period of two days the United Kingdom went from having a female Monarch and male Prime Minister (6th September, 2022), to having a male Monarch and female Prime Minister (8th September, 2022). This is a prophetic sign of great reversals. Queen Elizabeth’s last official act before her passing was to appoint Liz Truss as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. God highlighted the name “Truss” to me with “t” replacing the last “s” and forming the word “trust.” Both ladies share the name Elizabeth, which means consecrated. They also share the name Mary but in reverse order. Queen Elizabeth’s names are "Elizabeth Alexandra Mary." Liz Truss’s names are "Mary Elizabeth." Great reversals are the order of the day.

Reversals are often unexpected and can change destinies in a moment. 2000 years ago an elderly and barren lady called Elizabeth experienced a great reversal when she became pregnant with John the Baptist. 2000 years ago an insignificant young girl called Mary experienced a great reversal when she became pregnant with Jesus. In 1936 a young girl called Princess Elizabeth experienced a great reversal when her uncle, King Edward, abdicated the throne, and her father became King. In 2022 Liz Truss experienced a great reversal after Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

When Mary was pregnant with Jesus she spoke of a great reversal: “[God] has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty (Luke 1:52-53). Thirty years later John the Baptist declared to Israel, “Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth (Luke 3:5). Through the ministries of John the Baptist and Jesus many things were turned upside-down, inside-out and right-side-up.

Queen Elizabeth has a profound legacy of consecration and trust. Her legacy starts from the generation of her father, but extents all the way to the generation of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In December 1939, when the United Kingdom was at war with Germany, the 13 year old Princess Elizabeth handed her father, King George, the following lines from Minnie Louise Haskins’ poem, “The Gate of the Year”:

“I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year, ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’ And he replied, ‘Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than a light, and safer than a known way.’”

King George used these lines to encourage and strengthen the United Kingdom in a time of great crisis and extreme sacrifice.

In December 1978, Queen Elizabeth said during her Christmas message, “Christians have the compelling example of the life and teaching of Christ and, for myself, I would like nothing more than that my grandchildren should hold His ideals which have helped and inspired so many previous generations.” God is going to answer her desire. There will be many surprising reversals. Her life was a model to her generation and an intercession for future generations.

Many reversals have been decreed. When things look certain to go one way, God will cause them to go another. Unknown people will be raised up. Known people will be gone. Nations headed in one direction will start going in the opposite direction. God’s plan will trump the enemies plan. It always does.
