The Joseph Company: A New Breed of Entrepreneurs

by Nathan Shaw

We are in a season of intense exposure. In fact, the exposure has only just begun. Corruption has its own complexity and exposing it requires uncovering levels and layers. It’s time for the light to shine and penetrate through this web of darkness. Many of the layers of corruption yet to be exposed will be so shocking that many will find it hard to trust again. Into this environment God is positioning a new breed of men and women—a Joseph company who carry an entrepreneurial anointing specific for our times.

Not only did Joseph have a gift of prophetic insight, he was also able to access divine strategies and implement them in ways which brought order, averted chaos, and restored trust. Joseph was an anointed administrator. Admittedly, being an administrator doesn’t sound particularly inspiring, but when you remove strategic administrators, chaos ensues. The order they bring leads to peace and prosperity. Without Joseph, Jacob’s family, Potiphar’s estate, an Egyptian prison, and the nation of Egypt would have all suffered loss. Although corrupt systems are about to be exposed on an unprecedented level, new divinely inspired systems will come forth and restore order and trust in the midst of the chaos and confusion. Get ready for a new normal based on the economy and efficiency of heaven.

Joseph entered the land of his destiny as a slave. He was purchased by Potiphar, a wealthy Egyptian who had a considerable estate (Genesis 39:1). Everybody wants to win the favor of the wealthy. Because of this it can be hard for the wealthy to know who to trust. It didn’t take long for Joseph to win Potiphar’s confidence. Potiphar put Joseph in charge of his entire estate. Joseph made everything work better and was totally trustworthy (Genesis 39:2-6). Joseph’s attitude was remarkable. He could so easily have responded in bitterness because of the injustice and betrayal he experienced when sold as a slave by his own brothers. Unfortunately Joseph’s season of favor didn’t last long. Injustice and betrayal assaulted him once again, this time through Potiphar’s wife. Joseph was falsely accused of laying his hands on her and was promptly thrown into prison (Genesis 39:7-20).

If being a slave was a place of confinement, being a prisoner was much more so. Regardless, Joseph did it again. He proved so trustworthy that he was given managerial responsibility within the prison in which he was a prisoner (Genesis 39:21-23)! Being used to change the atmosphere in Potiphar’s house was an extraordinary accomplishment. Being used to change the atmosphere in a hell-hole prison was nothing less than a miracle. In prisons, bitterness, anger, fear and despair reign supreme. Entrepreneur’s see opportunities when others see impossibilities.

Next Joseph was elevated by Pharaoh to the highest governmental position in Egypt. How did that happen?

  • Firstly, Joseph interpreted the dreams that were troubling Pharaoh: Seven years of abundance would be followed by seven years of extreme famine (Genesis 41:1-32). Interpreting Pharaoh's dreams was a good start.
  • Secondly, he gave Pharaoh a strategy to prepare for the coming crisis: Store grain during the years of abundance (Genesis 41:33-36). Pharaoh and all his servants thought Joseph’s advice was exceptionally good (Genesis 41:37). That’s two ticks.
  • Thirdly, the God-given mantle on Joseph was recognized: “And Pharaoh said to his servants, ‘Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?’ Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.’ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt’ (Genesis 41:38-41).

Joseph not only had insight and strategy, he also had the anointing to implement the strategy. Once Joseph was in position he had to move fast. Storing vast amounts of grain for extended periods of time required the development of new technologies. The logistics of the operation could have easily become an administrative nightmare. Entrepreneurs don’t just dream and strategize, they go to work.

It’s true Joseph had a mantle, but he also had experience. Firstly, he brought order to the estate of a wealthy man—increasing Potiphar’s wealth and standing. Secondly, he brought order in the confines of a prison filled with hopeless, penniless prisoners. Joseph was well prepared to administrate something as diverse as a nation. Anointed entrepreneurs are an important part of God’s strategy for the nations. He knows how to prepare them and He knows how to position them. These anointed vessels will not be intimidated by chaos or confusion. It’s time for the Joseph company to come forth.
