Governmental Shifts, Contention and Promotion – Nathan Shaw

In the dream I was driving a car. My co-pastor was in the passenger seat. My mum was in the back seat. In front of us was a car driven by a lady. The lady was intent on preventing us from getting ahead. I moved into the right lane and proceeded to pass her car (in New Zealand we drive on the left hand side of the road). As I did so a third car came unexpectedly from behind. The third car was moving very fast and seemed oblivious to my car. It whipped in-between my car and the car I was passing, forcing me to maneuver off the edge of the road.

The road ran along the edge of a dangerously high cliff. The wheels on the right side of my car were now driving on the shoulder of the cliff. Miraculously, the shoulder of God appeared and supported the wheels. At the right time, God supernaturally pushed my car in front of the other two cars. He spoke and said, “The government will be upon My shoulders” (Isaiah 9:6).

In the second scene, the car was now a roofless, white sports car. It resembled a car used to transport government officials and carried an aura of authority. On the front of the car was a white flag with a gold “Lion of the tribe of Judah” on it (Revelation 5:5). I was in the back seat along with my co-pastor and my mum. There was no driver except the flag. The car traveled very steadily down the road, pulling into churches, or wherever else the car took us.

In the third scene, I was standing on the front of the car, holding onto the flag with one hand. My other hand was above my eyes, searching for the way ahead, much like a sailor searches for land on the far horizon. The dream has a number of connections with the throne of David. Revelation 5:5 says that the “Lion of the tribe of Judah” is the “Root of David.” Isaiah 9:6-7 mentions the increasing government of the throne of David. The throne of David speaks of kingdom authority.

A few months after this dream was given, I woke early one morning with a supernatural weight pushing me against my bed, and the name of my city exploding in my spirit. I knew God was asking me to plant a church in my city. Twice within the next six months God spoke to me unexpectedly, “I have given you authority in this city!” He said the word “authority” with a very strong emphasis, almost like He was imparting the authority to me.

The three cars in the dream represent three different spiritual governments. The car in front represents the government of lawlessness. It is against the law to prevent other cars from passing while driving on the open road. The lady driver may also represent the spirit of Jezebel. Queen Jezebel was lawless. When she wanted something, she had no issue breaking the law to get it. The car that came in from behind represents the government of performance. It was moving dangerously fast (performance driven) and was oblivious to the danger it was causing my car (blind ambition).

The car in front was attempting to prevent my car from getting ahead. The car that came from behind forced my car to the side of the road and the shoulder of the cliff. Lawlessness and performance are spiritual governments that hold back and push aside kingdom government. Lawlessness and performance have their own agendas (see for example Matthew 7:21-23 & James 4:13-15). God supports and promotes that which is initiated by Him.

2020 is a year of major governmental shifts in the earth. This will become increasingly obvious, both with natural governments over nations, and spiritual governments within the church. Governmental shifts are usually turbulent and accompanied with high levels of contention. Despite the contention, God will promote those who have pursued His kingdom and His interests above their own. Many who have truly yielded to God’s government have seen only limited results. Some have even questioned whether or not they are truly submitted to God and doing His will. Their hearts have cried out, “God, if I’m truly in Your will, why are resources so tight?! Why is everything so precarious?! Why are the results so limited?!”

It is true, in many instances kingdom government is being held back and pushed aside. However, in the midst of the contention, God is writing a profound lesson on many hearts: “The government is on My shoulders!” This revelation brings a supernatural peace that stands out in the midst of chaos and uncertainty (Romans 14:17, 16:20). After initially throwing fifty fits, you might even learn to enjoy the ride along the edge of the precarious cliff. Those who settle in for the ride will be astonished at the kingdom authority that awaits them.
